Artificial Intelligence is used by the RTA to look at the potential of human errors and how they can be mitigated.

The third phase of trials of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology to assess Tram Drivers in real-time and ensure passenger has been implemented by the RTA in partnership with Keolis and VirtuE Therapy and Research.
The Tram Driver Monitoring system is new. Emotional Data Analysis and Automation (EDAATM) is a generative artificial intelligence system based on deep learning models provided by a Spanish Firm and OWN Experiences, which has an R&D branch in the United Kingdom.
The operator of the Dubai Tram and the provider of it are working together with the Roads and Transport Authority to review and collect the data.
The system includes a smart device and an armband to have a variety of detection classifications such as heart rate, speech patterns and reaction times to determine driving style, unsafe patterns, deviations, and gestures based on drivers’ profiles.
The solution reduces the potential of human error incidents by predicting behaviour that can threaten operational safety and triggering a preventive response to prevent incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
It will give information based on locations, which will help show hot spots of concerns and address viable solutions. The system is always assessing critical areas and processes an adequate response through embedded individual profiling technology.
A comprehensive understanding of the individuals is provided by the data collected from both incidents and operations. The required profiles are then defined to continuously improve the system.
Director Rail Operations, Rail Agency, said, “Transportation networks and their assets are widely known as critical infrastructures that require attention to details and special protection.” Artificial Intelligence is one of the latest innovative solutions used by the Roads and Transport Authority. It’s in line with its corporate values of innovation and creativity. We are in the trial phase of this innovative solution with our partners to make sure our passenger’s safety. We expect it to be implemented across the Dubai Trams following a successful trial.
As artificial intelligence and deep learning applications are being used in everyday processes, Wallace Weatherill, Managing Director of Keolis-MHI, said, “We are living in a digital era and we will continue to advance as more artificial intelligence and deep learning applications are being used in everyday processes It is no surprise that the Roads and Transport Authority is the leader in the region with their focus on smart city approach and the fully automated rail system. The Tram Driver Monitoring System is a small step towards a bigger future and Keolis will continue to work with the RTA to explore Artificial Intelligence solutions.
VirtuE R&D is proud to be working with the Roads and Transport Authority and Keolis. VirtuE is a branch of Own Experiences Group and looks forward to providing data-driven results to better understand requirements and tailor a product that will serve the needs. Forging greater cooperation to deploy a first-of-its-kind initiative in the world that will cement the Dubai Tram as an innovative and safe form of transportation.
